Is this King’s garden or king’s fortress?
Let’s find the answer for longtime argument.
Siriya builds by King Kashyapa (AD 477-495). King Kashyapa is second son of King Dhatusena. King Kashyapa sized the throne by slaying his own father of King Dhatusena. By the time the rightful heir, price Moggallanawa a fled to south India.
King Kashyapa moved his kingdom from Anuradhapura to Sigiriya. Meantime, Sigiriya developed into a complex city & fortress.
Sigiriya built as a fortress as well as pleasure palace.
Moggallanawa finally arrived, and declared war against king’s slave of his own brother. And defeated king Kashyapa in 495 AD.
Pleasure palace of Sigiriya abandoned. And kingdom moves back to Anuradhapura.
Thus, we can call, Sigiriya is King’s fortress & garden.
